About Us
Software shouldn’t cost a fortune — and you shouldn’t have to guess whether it’s worth buying.
ProsCost was built on a simple idea: most people buying software for their Windows PC or Mac don’t have time to download trial versions, dig through forums, or roll the dice on a coupon code that may or may not work. They just want a straight answer — is this app any good, and what’s the lowest legitimate price I can pay for it?
That’s the question we set out to answer, one product at a time.
What we do
ProsCost is an independent review and deals platform focused on the software people actually use day to day on Windows and macOS. We publish two main types of content:
Hands-on reviews. We install the apps, run them through real-world scenarios, and write up what we found — features, performance, quirks, pricing tiers, and how each product stacks up against the alternatives. Where it makes sense, we put competing tools head-to-head (think AOMEI Backupper Standard vs. Professional or Sibelius Ultimate vs. Artist) so you can pick the right edition without paying for features you’ll never touch.
Verified discount coupons. Software vendors run promotions constantly, but a frustrating number of “coupon codes” floating around the web are expired, region-locked, or outright fake. Every code we publish is tested at checkout before it goes live on the site, and we mark deals as expired the moment they stop working. If a discount appears on ProsCost, it’s because we confirmed it actually drops the price.
The categories we cover
Our editorial focus sits squarely on practical, productivity-oriented software — the tools people install and keep using for years. That includes:
- Security & antivirus — Bitdefender GravityZone, Sophos Home, HitmanPro, and other endpoint protection tools for home users and small businesses
- Backup, recovery & disk management — AOMEI Backupper, AOMEI Partition Assistant, EaseUS, FoneTool, and similar utilities
- PDF editors & document tools — Nitro PDF Pro, PDF Expert, and other Windows/Mac PDF software
- Creative & audio production — Avid Pro Tools, Sibelius, Media Composer, Rebelle, and other tools for designers, musicians, editors, and digital artists
- Virtualization & system utilities — Parallels Desktop and other apps that make daily computing smoother
If a tool falls into one of these buckets and people are searching for an honest opinion or a working discount, we want to be the page they land on.
How we keep our reviews honest
A review site is only as useful as the trust readers place in it, which is why we hold ourselves to a few non-negotiable rules:
- We pay for or request review access ourselves. Our take on a product isn’t shaped by who pitched us hardest.
- We test before we publish. No copy-pasted vendor marketing. If we say a backup tool restored a 50 GB image in twelve minutes, that’s because we timed it.
- A coupon either works or it doesn’t. Codes are validated at the checkout page on the vendor’s official site. Deals that stop working get flagged as expired rather than quietly left up.
- We’re upfront about pros and cons. Every product has trade-offs. Hiding them does no one any favors — least of all the reader who buys the software and discovers the limitations on day two.
A note on how we make money
ProsCost participates in affiliate programs with several of the software vendors we cover. When you click through to a deal and complete a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — and often at a discount, thanks to the coupons we negotiate or surface.
That commission keeps the lights on, but it does not decide what we recommend. A product earning us an affiliate fee gets the same critical treatment as one that doesn’t, and we routinely give lukewarm or negative verdicts to products in our affiliate network when they deserve it. If we ever felt our independence was being compromised, this site wouldn’t be worth running.
Who we’re for
Whether you’re a freelancer comparing PDF editors before a client deadline, a small-business owner sizing up endpoint security, a video editor weighing Media Composer tiers, or just someone who wants a reliable backup tool that won’t break on next month’s Windows update — ProsCost is built for you. We aim to save you two things: the hours you’d otherwise spend researching, and the money you’d otherwise overpay.
